Review By Ernie Richards from Enrada Publications:  "If you have any connection with “cobs” —Spanish colonial coins of gold, silver or copper— then The Macuquina Code belongs in your numismatic library! Compiled by Agustín “Augi” García-Barneche and produced by Historic Real Treasures, this is a long-needed publication. In 96 7"x10" softbound pages, Augi has pulled together over 1500 words and terms specific to collecting, buying, and selling cob coins and placed them in alphabetical order for quick reference.  The first section of the book has entries in the Spanish language in the left-hand column, with their exact English counterparts listed opposite them in the right-hand column, providing a ready “translator” for words and expressions one encounters in books, articles, and auction catalogs and for which there was formerly “no clue” In the second half of his work, García-Barneche alphabetized the same words and terms in English and installed them in the left-hand column facing the Spanish translation on the right-hand side of the page.

A list of “references consulted” is also included in this section. Much like a Spanish-English/ English-Spanish dictionary, the book has been designed to be used for two-way conversion of terms finely-tuned to the specific subjects of Spanish colonial coins, Spanish shipwrecks, Spanish-American history, and words which formerly just elicited a shrug from the reader —as it is part of the archaic or local jargon in the treasure- producing areas of the New World."

About this book: Spanish is not a difficult language to learn, but we know from experience that many of you who like to collect cobs and coins from Spain and its New World colonies simply do not have the time to sit down and learn another language. Yet without SOME basic knowledge of Spanish many of the best books, articles, online sources and catalogues on these coins will remain inaccessible. This  ‘translator’ will put the user light years ahead of other beginning or veteran students of Spanish Colonial coins, giving him or her access to the treasuries of information to be extracted from previously inaccessible sources. Internet web sites, documents, manuscripts, books, catalogs and more, produced in the language native to this study may now be searched for valuable details concerning our common interest: cobs...macuquinas!

The book includes  terms that are not only narrowly numismatic in meaning, but also pertaining to the related subjects of mining, heraldic, geography, colonial administration, trade, business and history. We’ve also included terminology that will give you a kind of “survival guide” to doing business in Spanish. You will learn the key terms needed for buying and selling at auction. We hope this helps, the clues are here…

También incluimos términos relacionados con la búsqueda de naufragios y el estudio de sus tesoros. “El Código Macuquina” será de gran ayuda para investigar y negociar a nivel internacional. Esperamos que este libro les sea de ayuda, las claves están aquí.

We all owe Augi a sincere 'Gracias'." - Philip Flemming, Ph.D.

That's what is so fantastic about it! Now, with what you have done, it makes it even more interesting and anyone with an interest in the hobby whether they are beginners or professionals have something they can glean from this publication. - "The Macuquina Code" is a much-needed reference book for every Spanish colonial coin collector. The author has taken the mystery out of Spanish numismatic terminology by producing a book that translates BOTH from Spanish to English...and English to Spanish. The book translates over 1500 words and terms used by numismatists and is invaluable in understanding Spanish texts and references. I think "The Macuquina Code" is essential for every Spanish colonial coin collector and treasure enthusiast." - Dave Crooks President, Sunken Treasure Literature Club, FUN
